Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India Reveals Partial Artist List for 2018 Edition

Alex Greenberger, ArtNews, 12 June 2018
The Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India has announced the first batch of artists participating in its 2018 edition, set to open on December 12 at various venues in the cities of Kochi and Kerala. Curated by the artist Anita Dube, this year’s edition will be the Kochi-Muziris Biennale’s fourth.

Though this year’s biennial is as yet untitled, Dube explained its premise in a statement in which she called the 2018 Kochi-Muziris Biennale a “knowledge laboratory.” “My earliest intuitive vision for this edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale to explore the possibilities for a non-alienated life has remained with me,” she said. “The need to listen, think, and learn with each other, particularly voices from the margins—of women, of the queer community, the oppressed castes, the whispers and signs of nature—with a spirit of freedom and comradeship is vital.”

Below is a list of 35 artists showing at this year’s Kochi-Muziris Biennale. More artists will be announced at a later date.
