Nengi Omuku in the Dakar Biennial

Nengi Omuku’s Repose 2022 is currently on view at the Dakar Biennial. The 15th Dakar Biennial runs through to 7 December 2024.

Repose was made following a transformative visit for the artist to a tropical agriculture research center in Ibadan, Nigeria. Omuku was awestruck by the lake near the center, and sketched the water lilies en plein air, creating drawings that became the basis of the painting.

The painting was included in Parables of Joy the artist's first solo
exhibition with Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, and ‘The Dance of People and the Natural World’, her first institutional solo exhibition at Hastings Contemporary, UK.
