Pippy Houldsworth Gallery is delighted to announce that Qualeasha Wood's Clout Chasin' (2023) has been acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago. The work is currently on view at the museum as part of the exhibition Threaded Visions: Contemporary Weavings from the Collection which runs until 26 August 2024.
The piece was previously part of Wood's first European solo exhibition tl;dr at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery in 2023, in which the artist turned her attention to themes of surveillance and vulnerability in her continued her exploration of racial, sexual and gender identity, and in particular as they relate to the Black femme body.
Wood's work is also currently on view at the Brooklyn Museum, NY and Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, GA.
Later this month, Pippy Houldsworth Gallery will present a new tapestry and tufting by Wood at Art Basel Hong Kong, where the artist will also be part of a panel discussion titled Social Fabrics: Weaving as Art Form.
