Recent Additions to the Collection
Exchanges sets art and artists together, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in opposition.
In this evolving exhibition, art that has recently been acquired by the Whitworth is placed in dialogue with selected works from the existing collection.
The display reflects on the history of the collection, and shares our vision for its future. Recently, we have been acquiring work that expands, enriches and troubles its contents, departing from a narrow art history that privileges white male artists.
This iteration of Exchanges includes a special focus on contemporary textile art by women artists from South Asia and the British South Asian diaspora, collected through the Art Fund New Collecting Award awarded to previous Assistant Curator Uthra Rajgopal in 2019. www.artfund.org
