2023 FELLOW - AYAN FARAH
Ayan Farah is awarded the scholarship from Byggmästare Sven-Harry's Art and Housing Foundation for an investigative approach to painting in an expanded field, which leads to a borderland where abstract painting intertwines with textile art. Ayan Farah's painterly creations delight and amaze at the same time; in the underlying alchemical processes from which the works partly derive their properties from and in reaction with the geographical and natural conditions of a particular place. Through the textile reuse that constitutes a constant hub, the productions include a poetry about movements between time and space. It is fine-tuned and low-key and stands in inspiring contrast to the trend in art that prizes what is biggest, "loudest" and bombastic in terms of form.
